Contrary to popular belief, not everyone, can be a babysitter. And not everyone who thinks they can be a babysitter can take on this profession. It's hard and it takes a certain type of person to love it. After 9 years of interviewing candidates as babysitters I always ask; "What do you enjoy about looking after children?" The reasons vary from watching kids to playing with them. Here are the most frequent answers to this question. Enjoy!
Babysitters In a Pinch
As I follow blogs, things to do with children, activities, etc there seems to be a disconnect. The majority of activities are targeted towards women and their children (notice I said majority NOT all). This is 2013, and men are more in the picture then they ever have been in the past.
Excellent babysitters are rare, hard to find and harder still to keep. Whether you hire a sitter for a night out or to provide permanent daycare, letting them know what you expect is essential. It is confusing for children to have one set of rules for dad, another for mom, and ‘who is this stranger ordering me around?’ Whether your sitter is the kid next door or a fully vetted pro from an agency, everyone needs to be on the same page.

In my lifetime I've seen so much change in the way money is viewed by children, as well as competition shared within adult and child minds. I don't think the changes have been healthy for our children. I'm actually not sure myself about healthy attitudes about money; but I do think the example of parents in how they treat money, and competition is what will have the most impact on your children.

When you walk out your door don't think that you are leaving your children with someone that isn't worried about your children. They may not worry as much as you do but, believe me, babysitters and nannies worry constantly about your children. Some of the biggest frustrations that caregivers have are that they have to be a little more strict because they feel responsible for the safety of your children while they are in their care. Babysitters also worry about your home because we don't know if your children are allowed to use furniture as jungle gyms or bouncy castles. So to pare it down we've broken down our most common worries when we have your children.
You've left your children in the care of a babysitter you love and trust, and you head out the door to dinner or a movie. When you come home the babysitter tells you everything went fine, the house looks fine, and in good order. But, babysitters will inevitably bend the rules a bit to compensate issues that may arise when babysitting children.
